Glossa - GIC The Villa Collection

High up at 300 metres above sea level on the North East coast of the island, Glossa is a large hillside village with a population of around 1,300 people. The village is 25km from Skopelos Town, though as the crow flies only about 10km. Three buses daily link the village to Skopelos Town. Built in the shape of an amphitheatre on the mountainside, the views from the village are spectacular. The hillsides around the village are covered by pine forests, almond, plum and plane trees. This is good walking territory with tracks leading to several places of local interest. The sand/shingle beaches of Perivoli (6km) and Spilia can be reached by road and tracks lead to other deserted beaches. It is the small church at Spilia, built on a dramatic rocky outcrop, which featured in the musical film Mamma Mia.

This red-roofed traditional village, with ruins dating back to Byzantium, has managed to retain its character, has two tavernas, a bakery and mini market. Two kilometres below the village is its port, Loutraki, where there are more tavernas and from where flying dolphins depart for Volos and other Sporades islands.
