South Coast Kefalonia - GIC The Villa Collection

From Lassi to Scala the south coast has a series of beautiful sandy beaches. Easily accessible by car, these beaches have the dramatic backdrop of Mount Aenos and foothills of olive groves, vineyards and cypress trees. Makris Yalos and Lassi have the distractions of a popular resort with watersports and an extensive selection of tavernas, bars and shops. Spartia and Katelios are smaller and quieter.

The drive from south coast to north coast takes up to 2 hours.

Kaminia beach near Katelios is ideal for children with masses of sand for castles and shallow water. Makris Yalos and Lassi, closest to Argostoli are the main resorts with an extensive selection of tavernas, bars and shops. Katelios has plenty of tavernas and restaurants whilst Spartia is smaller and quieter. Moving eastwards along the coast brings you to quieter, more natural spots like Spartia, Trapezaki, Lourdas and Katelios.

Argostoli was destroyed by a terrible earthquake in 1953, and the rebuilt town is a hive of activity with waterfront tavernas, bars, cafes, shops and markets selling local produce. Though not a typical holiday resort, it does offer the best choice of restaurants. The main shopping street is pedestrianised, with many colourful shops and trendy cafes frequented by the young where you can sip your coffee and watch the world go by. The folk museum is one of several that are worth visiting and the public library has a fine collection of icons.

Argostoli does not have a beach but the resort of Lassi is just round the corner.
