Kaliviani - GIC The Villa Collection

This small, pretty and peaceful village is close to the start of the Gramvoussa Peninsula on the North West tip of Crete about an hours drive from Chanea Airport. The village was the birthplace of Emmanuel Diktakis who, in 1840, organised the uprising against the Turks in Apokorona and was killed for his efforts. The lifestyle here is typically Cretian with a friendly community and is centred around two tavernas and two cafe bars. The streets have no names or house numbers, but the postman knows all the three hundred locals. The houses are all of stone and many have colourful gardens.

Trachilos Beach is a five minute drive and the long sandy beaches of Falissarna 15 minutes away. This whole North West coast is known for its sandy beaches. The port of Kastelli, with its waterfront tavernas, cafe bars and supermarket is a ten minute drive. Archaeological sites and monasteries are all close by.
