Arillas - GIC The Villa Collection

The North West of Corfu is an area of wide bays with sandy beaches, and Agios Stefanos, Arillas and Agios Georgios the principle resorts. Larger than than Agios Georgios, Arillas, with a population of around 450 to 500 persons is ideal if one is looking for sandy beaches, clean seas, beautiful countryside, small shops and a wide choice of tavernas serving a variety of dishes. The bays of Agios Stefanos and Agios Georgios lie on either side of Arillas Bay, so there is quite a variety of beaches and villages to choose from, all of which can be accessed along ancient donkey tracks that wind through the olive groves.

The old villages, monasteries and working olive presses are up in the hills as in the middle ages, when Corfu was populated with small communities, it was wise to keep away from the coast and the pirates.

September and October are ideal for warm seas, ripe fruit and balmy evenings; April and May for the wild flowers, twinkling fireflies and amorous bullfrogs. The annual wine festival takes place on the Friday and Saturday of the second weekend in September, with demonstrations of traditional wine-making, plenty of free local wine and traditional dancing.
