FISCARDO
The fashionable port of Fiscardo lies at the tip of the north east coast and looks out towards the island of Ithaca. Somehow, Fiscardo escaped the ravages of the 1953 earthquake and the beautiful Venetian buildings still stand. On one side of the horseshoe bay, a sixth century basilica, surrounded by pines, looks down onto the 18th century houses, and cafe bars which line the waterfront.
The harbour is the jewel in Fiscardo's crown, with beautiful harbour-front, pastel coloured houses and many cosmopolitan bars and tavernas. At night the harbour assumes a magical Mediterranean atmosphere with twinkling lights and fashionable cafes to relax and people watch. During the high season, this is a favourite port of call for the yachts of the rich and famous.
The area around Fiscardo is quite different, with hidden hamlets amongst olive and pine trees on the hillsides above the town. Small, shingle beaches and secluded coves below forested hillsides abound on either side of the bay.
This is a magical area and quite unique.
