AGIA EFIMIA
Sami Bay on the eastern coast lies opposite the island of Ithaca. Sami is the main port for ferries to Patras, Ithaca and Italy. Nine kilometres away at the northern tip of the bay lies Agia Efimia, a colourful little port with a very welcoming village feel and authentically Greek atmosphere.
Tavernas, and cafe-bars line the quayside, an ideal spot from which to watch the many boats and sailing flotillas that come ago. Small shops, mini-markets and the small bakery provide most necessities. Motor boats can be hired from here and there is a well established diving school. Organised trips can be booked from here to Lefkas and Ithaca as well as an island tour by coach. In fact, Agia Efimia is a good base from which to explore the island as Fiscardo is easily accessible, the north west coast is only a 25 minute drive and Argostoli can be reached in an hour.
Around the village are numerous small white pebble coves with sparkling clean water, ideal for swimming and snorkelling. The stunning Myrtos Beach is only a 10 to 15 minute drive as is Antisamos Beach. For those interested in caves, then those of Melissani and Drogarati near Sami are a must.
Agia Efimia is very much a family friendly place to be with a traditional Greek charm and ambience.
